Help Me Choose: Enterprise Linux for Desktop or Enterprise Linux for Workstation?
Desktop is designed for task workers that typically require a limited set of applications. The end user has limited admin control over the system, and system administrators are able to pre-configure and remotely manage consistent images across a large number of systems. Productivity applications in use include Firefox, Evolusion/Thunderbird, Planner/TaskJuggler, and OpenOffice. Services in use include network file systems, printing services, and IM. Desktop operating systems include Self-Support only.
Workstation is ideal for advanced Linux users. In addition to the tools and features of the Desktop variant, Workstation supports a standalone development environment. End users are expected to have local super-user privileges or select super-user privileges. Self-Support or Standard Support options available.
