• Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition offers both per host server and per core licensing. This licensing level give access to basic database, reporting, and analytics capabilities, with a maximum compute capacity scale limit for a single instance of 4 sockets or 16 cores.
• Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Edition offers all of the features (advanced and basic) of SQL Server 2016 in a per core licensing model. Per core licensing gives customers a more accurate measure of computing power and a more consistent way to measure licensing needs. Enterprise Edition also delivers high availability features not offered in the Standard Edition such as online indexing, hot add memory and CPU, fast recovery, mirrored backups, and online page and file restore.
